In today's digital era, where remote work is the norm, especially in project environments, physical meetings often seem unnecessary. But especially in projects that are primarily carried out remotely, it is crucial that teams come together physically at regular intervals. Why is that?

  • Strengthening a sense of teamwork: Remote work can often lead to a feeling of isolation. Regular team meetings help to break this isolation and strengthen the sense of community. They offer the opportunity to see and experience colleagues not just as names on a screen, but as real people.
  • Effective Communication: While digital communication tools are efficient, there are certain nuances and emotions that are best communicated face-to-face. Physical meetings allow for deeper and clearer communication, which can avoid misunderstandings.
  • Creative exchange: Brainstorming sessions and creative workshops benefit enormously from direct interaction. The spontaneous energy that arises when people work together in the same room can often lead to more innovative ideas.

What should a project team plan for such days together?

  • Lean Coffee: A structured, yet agenda-free meeting method in which participants introduce topics and vote on the order and length of discussions. In open and productive discussions, the most pressing issues are dealt with first.
  • Project reviews: Take the opportunity to review the current status of the project, discuss challenges and develop solutions together.
  • Training and workshops: Use the time for further training. This can take the form of internal training, guest lectures or workshops on relevant topics.
  • Feedback Rounds: Enable every team member to give and receive feedback. This promotes an open communication culture and helps identify potential problems early.
  • Future planning: Look into the future together. What goals does the team have? What resources are needed? What are the next steps?

In conclusion, although technology allows us to work effectively remotely, physical meetings still have invaluable value. They not only promote team dynamics and communication, but also help projects to be carried out more successfully and efficiently.
